Welcome to our new arriving missionaries

Nine wonderful new missionaries arrived this week. They are from Tonga, Australia, Samoa, USA, New Zealand and Portugal. We are so grateful to have them serve here in the Great Australia Perth Mission with us.  After arriving, we showed them the beautiful city skyline at Kings Park, then drove back to the mission home where we had dinner, interviews with President, then a devotional and testimony meeting.
The next morning they were all up bright and early for morning exercises with the Assistants, followed by breakfast and study class. We learnt about the importance of companions, unity and our purpose as missionaries. After study class, we all drove to the chapel where the new golden missionaries met their trainers and we had training for the remainder of the day.

Train the Trainers and Transfers

The day new missionaries arrive is always an exciting one. The day begins with the transfer meeting, where all missionaries who are being transferred to new areas, with new companions or new assignments, gather in the chapel. Assignments are announced and missionaries greet companions, then the process of loading up cars to move to their new areas begins, as you can see in the photos below.

The new trainers for the goldens soon to arrive at the 'train the trainers' meeting in the morning.

Farewell to our Departing Missionaries

This past week we said farewell to 6 of our dear missionaries. Their last day in the mission field was spent having some self-reliance training at the chapel, interviews with President, dinner together at the mission home, followed by a testimony meeting. It was off to the airport once more, where they left to be reunited with families and loved ones. We love you each and will miss you.

Rockingham Zone Preparation Day

Yesterday we had a fun-filled preparation day with Rockingham Zone. We have some impressive sportsmen and sportswomen in the great Australia Perth Mission! We played Ultimate Frisbee, Cricket and Kick-ball and enjoyed some pizza for lunch. It was great to unite together. Thank you to those who organized the afternoon so well.

Mission Tour

Last week we were blessed to have Elder and Sister Ardern visit our mission. We had a mission leadership council, followed by two Zone Conferences, one in the North and one in the South. We were taught, uplifted, edfied and strengthened. Some of their counsel included:
“The foundation stone of finding is testimony.”
“The measure of your conversion is your willingness to share the gospel” (Elder Bruce R McConkie).
“The elect of God are those who elect God.”
Five ways I can better prepare to fulfill my purpose (Invite)
1. Recognize the sources of my power. (2 Timothy 1:7 – God has not left you powerless)
2. Prepare myself spiritually (“Our first responsibility as teachers of the gospel is to prepare ourselves spiritually” President Benson)
3. Work enthusiastically (The only place we find success before work is in the dictionary)
4. Enhance teaching skills (Be a better evaluater. Use short powerful statements of truth).
5. Maintain a positive mental attitude (Things to do today: Pick yourself up. Dust yourself off. Start over again).
“Kneel and ask God for the love the place you are in, and the people you serve, in every area.”
“Love allows you to see people as God sees them. It allows you to see beyond the present to the future.”
