Missionaries Returning to Their Home Countries

Overseas missionaries serving in the Australia Perth Mission will be returning to their home countries as a result of precautions relative to COVID-19. This means that the only remaining missionaries who will be left in the Australia Perth Mission will be those missionaries from Australia.
The return of the missionaries will be done in a systematic way based on travel restrictions, level of COVID-19 concern, and other considerations. As some borders are closed, therefore some travel will take considerable time to put in place. The Missionary Department will move forward with the intent to return all foreign missionaries’ home wherever possible.

Parents and Stake Presidents will be notified when travel plans are made. We are unable to give a timeline as to when this will occur but please know that your missionary will be safe and will continue to work safely while travel is being organized.  We have been told that missionaries returning home will be 14 day quarantined and then be temporally reassigned. Stake presidents will be able to provide further information on this when known.

We are grateful for all of the wonderful missionaries serving here in the Australia Perth Mission. As President Nelson recently said speaking of COVID-19, “These unique challenges will pass in time, I remain optimistic for the future”. May we put our trust in the Lord as Nephi said "and my God shall be my strength" (1 Nephi 21:5)

Coronavirus Update 23 March 2020

The Australia Perth Mission continues to be directed by our leaders and the missionary department to ensure that all missionaries are safe and wise during these uncertain times.

All missionaries are directed to follow the procedure provided by the missionary department to protect themselves by following  preventive health practices.

As and if conditions change in our mission, updates will be posted on the blog and if necessary emails will be sent to all parents.

Please know the safety and well being of all missionaries is paramount at this time as we rely on the Lord's promises that God has in store for those who love Him and serve Him.

Coronavirus Update

All parents and guardians of missionaries serving in the Australia Perth Mission have received an email letter providing an update on the safety, well being and activities of the missionaries. If any parents have not received this email please contact the mission office preferably by email and a copy will be sent to you.

To help ensure the missionaries’ continued physical and spiritual well-being, we are following the inspired and well-informed direction of the First Presidency and Quorum of the Twelve, our Area Presidency, and the Missionary Department. We also are instructing the missionaries in following local and national government guidelines and precautions, reminding them to:
·           Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
·           Stay in their apartment whenever they themselves are sick. Avoid touching their eyes, nose, and mouth.
·           Cover coughs and sneezes with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
·           Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces with household cleaning spray or wipes.
·           Wash their hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds (which should always be done if their hands are visibly dirty), and, if soap and water are not readily available, to use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol.

At this stage all missionaries are well and the work of the Lord is progressing here. Going forward, we will continue to send updates to you as mission circumstances evolve.

Please be assured that we are completely dedicated to keeping all missionaries healthy and safe. And we are most grateful for our loving Heavenly Father’s supporting hand in caring for them. May He continue to abundantly bless all missionaries and their families as we strive to teach and assist the people we have been called to serve.

Zone Conferences and Mission Tour with Elder and Sister Nattress

Last week we had a wonderful mission tour with Elder and Sister Nattress of the Area Presidency. We had two combined Zone Conferences, and a meeting with the Mission Leadership Council. Elder Nattress trained on the commitment path that leads to the covenant path. He also asked us to reflect on that important question the Saviour asked the Pharisees in Matthew 22:42 "What think ye of Christ?" What we truly think of Christ will be reflected in our actions and the way we live our lives. We are so grateful for Elder and Sister Nattress's trainings and sharing their testimony and love of the Saviour with us. We were loved, uplifted and inspired.

Prior to the Zone Conferences, the country missionaries gathered together in the city for preparation day together. They also were able to spend some time in the beautiful Perth temple.
As President Nelson has counselled, "Now to each member of the Church, I say keep on the covenant path. Your commitment to follow the Savior by making covenants with Him and then keeping those covenants will open the door to every spiritual blessing and privilege available to men, women and children everywhere."

A Big Welcome to Seven New Missionaries

This past week we welcomed seven missionaries: four sisters and three elders. We are so grateful to have them here in the great Australia Perth Mission. These great Elders and Sisters, as disciples of Christ, have accepted the Prophets  invitation “ We invite you to be a major part in sharing the message of the ongoing Restoration of the Saviour’s gospel.” (President Russell M Nelson).
